Oppression & Defamation In-Game

We distance ourselves from gender oppression, racism, and bullying. That being said, a pirate LARP demands defamation, oppression, inequality, and shameless flirting.

We deal with and solve this dilemma by only accepting oppression based on in-game attributes. Examples of in-game attributes include: well-groomed/unkempt character appearance, well-groomed/unkempt language, courage/cowardice, and other character traits. This also means that we do not allow oppression or discrimination based on a player's OFF attributes whether it relates to gender, physical appearance, ethnic origin, or physical and mental abilities.

Please note that the game world itself is entirely gender-equal and the appearance variation is total, through all realms. If ever the skin tone, hair or eye color of the people of Nivaris/Tundlaheim has been tied to different geographical parts or tribes, it is something that has been mixed out longer ago than any legend stretches. We want you to refrain from offenses that refer to OFF-gender, OFF-appearance, and OFF-ability. However, we do encourage you to play on the contradictions built into the fiction in the form of affiliations (to realms, pirate types, etc.) and character traits that your own character dislikes (such as cowardice, courage, deceitfulness, etc.)

Flirting, Prostitution & slavery In-Game

Some tie a healthy flirtatiousness to the rum-drenched existence of pirate taverns, and this is something that we as organizers do not oppose. Likewise, prostitution is a common feature in the time and the society we draw inspiration from. It is also not something that we prohibit, but it must be done with consideration and in line with our fiction. It is therefore just as common for men to work in the brothels as women. Those who make their living through prostitution are relatively highly esteemed, engaged in the profession of their own free will, and at least as far as their work benefits – happy. We do not allow characters to have contempt for the profession of prostitution, and with that, there is no excuse to use expressions like "damn whore" etc as swear words.

Human trafficking and slavery are another thing well worth mentioning. Like prostitution, slavery is closely associated with the era that forms the basis for the inspiration for our fiction. Slavery is common in many of the realms, especially the western part of the world. Here too, however, we must emphasize the types of oppression that are approved in the world. It is perfectly okay to play a character from, for example, Hinside-Lôr who thinks all Zorostrians are savages that fit only in chains. However, it is important to remember that off-game attributes, such as eye color, hair color, and skin tone, are not associated with the various cultures in the world. It is simply not okay to in any way insinuate that slaves would have any particular ethnic characteristic, that's not something considered in The Tundlaheim Saga. Also remember that sexual violence and harassment do not exist in the world, so there are no slaves sold or used for sexual purposes.

Intimate Play, Stagefight etc. In-Game

We do not tolerate off-game offenses, threats or violence against participants or those working with the LARP. Physical play between LARPers (intimate play, stage fight, etc.), whether it is enacted physically or discussed in advance, is allowed by the organizers as long as it is done in consent between the LARPers and follows the event's other rules.
